三．否定轉移
英語(yǔ)“否定轉移”現象不僅是一種常見(jiàn)的語(yǔ)言現象，也是英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言的一種慣用法，同時(shí)也體現了英漢兩種語(yǔ)言在表達否定方面存在一定的差異。因此也是翻譯中的一大難點(diǎn)，以下是幾種常見(jiàn)的否定轉移句式：
1，not …because /by 形式上否定的是主句部分，意義上否定的卻是because 之后的內容，譯為“并不是/并非因為…”。
如：He didn’t wear an overcoat because the weather was cold.
并不是因為天氣冷他才穿大衣。
We didn’t deny the person merely because he was not qualified.
我們并非因為這個(gè)人不夠條件才拒絕他的。
He wasn’t arrested by lack of necessary information.
他并不是因為缺乏必要的信息而被捕的。
試比較：
①He did not go to school because he was sick.他沒(méi)去學(xué)校，因為他生病了。
②He doesn’t do exercise because he likes to.他不是因為喜歡才去鍛煉的。
一般來(lái)說(shuō),判斷否定是否轉移,要根據上下文來(lái)定,第①句,如果譯為”他不是因為生病才去學(xué)校的”就不符合常理了…
2, 否定主句轉譯為否定從句。
（1）當主句的謂語(yǔ)為表示看法的動(dòng)詞時(shí)，賓語(yǔ)從句的否定詞往往移到主句，這類(lèi)動(dòng)詞有：believe, think, suppose, expect, imagine, reckon 等。
如：I don’t believe that he can do it.
我相信他不會(huì )做此事。
We don't expect candidates to be paragons of virtue. 
我們不指望候選人在道德上盡善盡美。
We don’t think that he is suitable for the job.
我們覺(jué)得他不適合做這工作。
但是，若謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞為hope，賓語(yǔ)從句中的否定則不會(huì )發(fā)生轉移。
如：I hope you weren’t ill. 我想你沒(méi)有生病吧。
（2）當主句的謂語(yǔ)為表示感覺(jué)的動(dòng)詞時(shí)，賓語(yǔ)從句中的否定詞往往轉移到主句。這類(lèi)動(dòng)詞有：appear, seem, feel as if, look as if, sound as if 等。
如：It doesn’t seem that he’s telling the truth.
(=It seems that he isn`t telling the truth.)
看來(lái)他沒(méi)有講真話(huà)。
The project doesn't sound feasible. 
聽(tīng)起來(lái)不切實(shí)(=It sounds infeasible)
.It doesn't seem to be a very good plan, but I think we should have an open mind about it for the time being. 
(=It seems to be not a good plan ,but ….)
這個(gè)計劃看上去不太好, 但我認為我們應該暫時(shí)多聽(tīng)聽(tīng)對它的意見(jiàn).
It doesn't look as if it's going to rain tomorrow. 
明天不見(jiàn)得會(huì )下雨.
（=It looks as if it isn’t going to rain tomorrow.）
3,以nothing none等否定代詞或no + 名詞做主語(yǔ)的句子，一般將否定轉移到謂語(yǔ)
如：No energy can be created, and none destroyed.
能量不能創(chuàng )造，也不能消滅。
Nothing in the world can come between us.
世界上沒(méi)有任何事情可以將我們分開(kāi).
4,其他形式的否定轉移
(1)Rome is not build in one day.
冰凍三尺非一日之寒.(形式上否定的是謂語(yǔ)部分,實(shí)際上否定的是狀語(yǔ)部分)
(2)部分否定本質(zhì)上也是一種否定轉移,形式上否定的是謂語(yǔ),實(shí)際上否定了其他部分。
All students in my class are not clever.
并不是我們班上的所有學(xué)生都很聰明。(否定主語(yǔ))
I don’t know all of them.
我對他們并不都認識。(否定賓語(yǔ))
四，形肯意否的表達
英語(yǔ)中還有一種否定，即不使用not , hardly , impossible等否定詞，而借助于一些單獨使用時(shí)沒(méi)有否定意思的詞構成的詞組成固定搭配來(lái)表達否定的含義。翻譯時(shí)也要譯為否定,
1,too結構
(1) too…+to do“太…不能…”
The news is too good to be true.
這消息太好了，不可能是真的。
(2) too +a/ad +for+邏輯主語(yǔ)+to do:
This problem is too difficult for us to solve.
這道題太難了我們解不出來(lái)。
2，than的結構
(1)more than 這個(gè)結構我們之前在形容詞的比較級部分已經(jīng)做了講解，more than的意思有很多，當more than 拆開(kāi)用時(shí)，常譯為譯為“與其說(shuō)…倒不如說(shuō)” “是…而不是”
如：①. The change in government is more for show than for real. 
政府的轉變更多的是裝裝樣子，而不是真的。
②He is more knave than fool
與其說(shuō)他蠢，不如說(shuō)他壞。
lmore than one can也是常見(jiàn)的譯為否定的句式。
③The problems of urban areas are far more than can be handled any short - term efforts . 
城市地區的問(wèn)題是不可能 短期內解決的。
（2）rather than結構
①rather than（是…而不是）
The effect is soft and pretty rather than drop-dead sexy. 
給人的印象是柔和俏麗而不是吸人眼球的性感。
②would rather…than…(寧愿…也不)
He would rather shoot himself than compromise his principles. 
他寧愿一槍打死自己也不愿違背自己的原則。
3）other than(；絕非，絕不；除了)
①與…不同，不同于
She is quite other than what people described
她這個(gè)人完全不象你所說(shuō)的那樣。
②除了
The book is intended for the readers other than professional
這本書(shū)是供非專(zhuān)業(yè)人員閱讀的。
(4)nothing less/else than/nothing short of 等表”完全是,簡(jiǎn)直是”
It was nothing less than a miracle. 那完全是個(gè)奇跡。
(5)no less than表”簡(jiǎn)直是”
It is no less than blackmail to ask such a high price.
要價(jià)這么高簡(jiǎn)直是搶劫。
